Antique Victorian 9ct gold picture frame locket featuring an ornate design on the front and back of the shield shaped locket. The locket has a 9ct gold shell on the front, back and interiors, the sides have a thick gold plating. 

The locket is sold without a chain, a heavy chain would be required to wear this piece. It would look wonderful on a antique silver chain. 

The Locket is perhaps the most mysterious and alluring pieces of jewellery. Only the wearer knows what secrets lie within the locket. It has to be the ultimate love token. During the Victorian era, young Victorian women would hide a picture of a man they admired, if the man offered up a lock of hair a marriage proposal usually would follow. The locket is in very good antique condition, it is slightly worn on the sides where the gold plating has worn away although this is not very noticeable and does not detract from the piece.. This piece is without a chain.
